How PTA Tax Is Calculated
For a phone that is not in the list, the price is converted to US dollars (about Rs 278 per USD) to find its value band. Phones up to $200 pay a fixed amount. Above $200, you pay a fixed amount plus sales tax on the phone's price: 18% up to $500 and 25% above $500.

The Finance Act 2026 also cut the income tax on phones worth $100 to $200 from Rs 930 to Rs 100, which makes the CNIC route cheaper in that band. It also allows the tax to be paid in instalments, as long as everything is paid within the financial year of import.
Passport vs CNIC: Which Route Applies?
Passport: you brought the phone into Pakistan yourself and register it within 60 days of arrival. No income tax is charged, so it is the cheaper route.
CNIC: the phone was bought locally, sent to you, or registered after the Passport window. The tax includes income tax, and a late fine may apply.
Visiting from abroad: overseas visitors can get temporary registration for up to 120 days. After that the phone is blocked unless the tax is paid.
How to Pay PTA Tax
Find your phone's IMEI by dialling *#06#, then check its status with our IMEI checker or by sending the IMEI to 8484.
Apply on PTA's DIRBS portal (dirbs.pta.gov.pk) with your Passport or CNIC and the IMEI.
The system gives you a PSID (payment slip ID) for the tax.
Pay the PSID through online banking, mobile banking, an ATM or a bank branch.
Once the payment is confirmed, your phone is registered and works on Pakistani networks.
Passport is cheaper. If you bring the phone into Pakistan yourself and register it within 60 days of arrival, you pay on Passport, which does not include the income tax charged on the CNIC route.
Can I pay PTA tax in instalments?
Yes. From the Finance Act 2026, tax on an imported mobile phone registered through PTA's DIRBS can be paid in instalments, as long as all instalments are paid before the end of the financial year in which the phone was imported.
Why does the tax jump for phones above $500?
Imported phones worth up to $500 pay 18% sales tax, while phones above $500 pay 25%, and the higher rate applies to the full value of the phone. The fixed amount for that band is also higher.
What happens if I do not pay PTA tax?
An unregistered phone is blocked from Pakistani mobile networks by PTA's DIRBS system, so calls, SMS and mobile data stop working with a local SIM.
How accurate is this PTA tax calculator?
It is an estimate based on the 1 July 2026 rates. FBR sets the final amount from the assessed value of your exact model, so check it in DIRBS before paying.
