iPhone 17 PTA Tax: Passport vs CNIC

Registering the iPhone 17 on your Passport costs Rs 89,133, while the CNIC route costs Rs 100,633, which is Rs 11,500 more because it includes income tax.

You can pay the Passport amount only if you brought the phone into Pakistan yourself and register it within 60 days of arrival. If you bought it in Pakistan, it was sent to you, or the 60 days have passed, you pay the CNIC amount, and a late fine may also apply.

Both amounts are estimates based on the iPhone 17's US launch price and the rates from 1 July 2026. FBR sets the final amount from the assessed value of your exact phone, so confirm it with FBR's official IMEI duty lookup before paying.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the PTA tax on the iPhone 17?

The PTA tax on the iPhone 17 is Rs 89,133 on Passport and Rs 100,633 on CNIC.

Is Passport or CNIC cheaper for the iPhone 17?

Is this the official FBR amount for the iPhone 17?

No, it is an estimate: it applies the 1 July 2026 rates to the iPhone 17's US launch price. FBR sets the final amount from the assessed value of your exact phone, so check it in DIRBS before paying.

Can I pay the iPhone 17 PTA tax in instalments?

Yes. From the Finance Act 2026, tax on a phone registered through PTA's DIRBS can be paid in instalments, as long as everything is paid before the end of the financial year in which the phone was imported.

What happens if I do not register my iPhone 17?

An unregistered iPhone 17 is blocked from Pakistani mobile networks, so calls, SMS and mobile data stop working with a local SIM. It still works on Wi-Fi.

How do I check if an iPhone 17 is PTA approved?
